(LANSING) – A St. Joseph County man says early retirement is in his plans after winning $2 million playing the Michigan Lottery’s $2 million Lucky instant game.
The 66 year old man, who chose to remain anonymous when he claimed his prize at Michigan Lottery Headquarters in Lansing, told Lottery officials he typically plays just the $5 and $10 scratch off tickets, but decided he would give the new game a try.
When he got to the last part of the game, the winner says he revealed the “$2MIL” symbol, he thought the ticket was a loser, because he never thought he would win the top prize.
The winner says when he went back to the store and had the worker scan it, he was told to file a claim at the Lottery Office because he just won $2 million.
The man bought the winning ticket at the Lightning Quick Gas N Go, 1560 East Chicago Road in Sturgis.
He took the one time lump sum payment of approximately $1.3 million, rather than the annuity payments for the full amount. With his winnings, the man says he plans to retire early and travel.
