(ELKHART COUNTY) – The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people that died in a four vehicle crash.

Investigators say they are 21 year old Steven Perez of Elkhart and 69 year old Donna Rae Gushwa of Milford.

Deputies were called to the intersection of County Road 40 and County Road 17 at 7:45 AM August 29. They determined that a 24 year old from Wakarusa was heading east on County Road 40 and ignored a stop sign. Their vehicle crashed into an SUV driven by Perez, who was heading south on County Road 17, and then another SUV, driven by Gushwa, who was driving north on County Road 17.

Perez’s vehicle flipped and hit a fourth vehicle, driven by a 59 year old Elkhart woman, that was going north on County Road 17.

Police say that Perez was ejected from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, as was Gushwa

The driver from Wakarusa was taken to the hospital, complaining of pain and with a possible broken collarbone. The Elkhart woman was also taken to the hospital with a broken ankle, clavicle and knuckles.

Perez was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash, the other drivers were wearing theirs. The crash is still under investigation.
