AUBURN, Ind. (WLKI)- A driver was taken to a hospital Tuesday morning after firefighters freed him from a vehicle following a three-vehicle crash at the southbound Interstate 69 entrance ramp at County Road 11A in DeKalb County.

The crash was reported about 9:20 a.m., according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office. The other two drivers and a witness traveling behind one of them told investigators the injured driver failed to stop at the intersection.

A second vehicle struck the first vehicle broadside, sending both into the southbound guardrail, the sheriff's office said. The second vehicle also struck a third vehicle that was stopped on County Road 11A waiting to turn onto southbound I-69. The third vehicle sustained minor damage.

Firefighters extricated the first driver, who was taken to a local hospital. The sheriff's office did not identify the driver or describe the extent of his injuries. The other two drivers reported no injuries.

Investigators believe alcohol may have contributed to the crash. The sheriff's office did not specify which driver it suspected of alcohol involvement. Deputy Cody Brown is investigating.

The Garrett Fire Department, Parkview EMS, DeKalb County Central Communications, C Noel's Towing and Jeff's Towing assisted the sheriff's office.
