ANGOLA, Ind. (WLKI)- A Battle Creek woman is facing multiple drug-related charges after deputies responded to a suspicious-person complaint in Steuben County over the weekend.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Office says a commuter reported seeing a woman acting strangely in a parking lot on County Road 700, west of Old 27, shortly before sunrise.
When deputies arrived, they found 40-year-old Chelsea Francis lying beneath a tarp on top of her 2011 Chevrolet Equinox.
According to court documents, Francis told deputies she had been driving home to Battle Creek from Tekonsha when she took a wrong turn and somehow ended up in Indiana. She said her vehicle became stuck in a culvert and her keys were locked inside.
Deputies described Francis' behavior as erratic and administered field sobriety tests.
Authorities say Francis admitted to recently using methamphetamine and to possessing new needles. Deputies later found needles inside a backpack on the front seat of the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.
Francis was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Steuben County Jail.
She faces multiple drug-related charges and remains held on a $10,000 bond. The charges are allegations, and she is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
