(INDIANPOLIS) - Indiana's unemployment rate remains unchanged from June to July, staying at 3.3%.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development reported on Friday that the state's labor market continued to show a relatively low level of unemployment despite a modest decline in private-sector employment.
The state's unemployment for July was below the national rate of 4.1%.
Additionally Indiana's labor force participation rate was 63.1%, compared with 61.4% nationally. This is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older that are either working or actively looking for work.
Indiana's total labor force was 3,489,469 in July. The private employment stands at 2,843,900 in July, down 4,900 jobs from June.
During July several industries added workers. Construction employment increased by 1,700 jobs, private educational and health services gained 1,200, and trade, transportation and utilities added 600.
The state's continued low unemployment rate comes as employers maintain a substantial number of openings. As of August 1, Indiana had 101,704 open job postings, up from 100,062 openings reported as of July 1.
