(FORT WAYE) - After a heated vote in the Indiana House, the controversial redistricting bill that could give Republicans a 9-0 sweep in the state's congressional delegation now heads to the Senate -- where the real fight begins Monday.

House Bill 1032 cleared the House 57-41 on Friday, with every Democrat and a dozen Republicans voting against it. The proposal reshapes districts across the state, including a major overhaul of Marion County, which would be split into four districts.

Gov. Mike Braun is urging the Senate to act quickly, calling the map "fair" and a strong step toward protecting Hoosier representation in Washington. But Democrats blasted the plan, calling it a blatant partisan power grab that fractures communities and weakens minority voting strength.

Now, the spotlight turns to the Senate, where lawmakers will formally take up House Bill 1032. Lawmakers must decide whether to advance, amend, or block the proposal entirely. If senators make changes, the bill returns to the House for further negotiation. If they approve it as-is, it heads straight to Gov. Braun's desk.

Democrats say they plan to push back hard. Senate Democratic Leader Shelli Yoder argues the map "strips voters of the representation they chose," while critics across the aisle warn that splitting up counties and cities could have long-term political consequences.

Republicans, including State Sen. Liz Brown, say redistricting is inherently political -- and Monday's debate is expected to make that clear.

One thing is certain: by Monday afternoon, Hoosiers will know whether the Senate intends to slow this process down or speed it toward final approval.
