(INDIANAPOLIS) - Hoosiers have one more chance to weigh in on proposed changes to Indiana's wildlife rules before the Natural Resources Commission takes a final vote.
The commission has opened its second and final public comment period on a package of proposed rule changes involving deer hunting, muzzleloaders, endangered species and other wildlife regulations.
The proposals include allowing muzzleloaders that load powder and primer from the breech end during muzzleloader season and removing previous state rule limits on rifles used for deer hunting, instead deferring to limits already established in Indiana law.
Other proposed changes would increase antlerless deer bag limits in Fayette and Franklin counties, remove armadillos from the state's list of exotic mammals, remove the Kirtland's warbler from Indiana's endangered species list and allow additional methods for taking frogs.
Public comments will be accepted through July 30.
Comments can be submitted online through the Natural Resources Commission's rulemaking docket or mailed to the commission at the Indiana DNR Legal Division in Indianapolis.
A second public hearing is scheduled for July 30 at 2 p.m. in the Roosevelt Room at the Fort Harrison Inn in Indianapolis. The public can attend in person or watch the hearing online and submit comments during the webcast.
After this comment period, the Natural Resources Commission can adopt, reject or modify the proposed changes.
