(ANGOLA) - The Steuben County Democratic Party will choose new leadership next week.

A caucus of Democratic Party precinct chairs will be held Tuesday, July 7, at party headquarters, 109 West Gale Street in Angola.

The caucus follows the planned resignations of Steuben County Democratic Party Chairperson Ben Helmsing and Vice Chairperson Amy Klingenberger, which take effect that day.

A new chairperson and vice chairperson will be chosen during the 6 p.m. meeting of precinct chairs. The officers elected at the caucus will immediately take office.

Under Helmsing and Klingenberger's leadership, the party received grants, grew membership, held large-scale days of action and expanded community outreach with food collection and blood drives.

Helmsing said he is proud of the party's growth, but the time commitment has also expanded. He said he plans to continue assisting with general party planning, data analysis for local campaigns and one-to-one guidance to local campaigns as his time allows.

Klingenberger also plans to remain active in the local Democratic Party.

The Steuben County Democrats meet monthly on the third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at 109 West Gale Street. Meetings are open to the public.
