(DEKALB COUNTY) - A Texas woman was injured late Monday night after her vehicle struck a deer on State Road 8 near Butler.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened at 11:32 p.m. on June 23 east of the west junction of State Road 1.

Investigators say Victoria Lee Tachtampas, 30, of Conroe, Texas, was driving east on State Road 8 when a deer ran into the roadway from the north side of the road.

Deputies say Tachtampas was unable to avoid the animal and struck it with her 2020 Kia Optima.

The collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle, including the hood, grille, both front fenders, the passenger-side headlight and the engine compartment. The vehicle was considered a total loss. Driver-side front airbags also deployed.

Tachtampas complained of back pain, abdominal pain and leg pain. She was transported to a hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Butler Police Department, Butler Fire Department, Parkview EMS, Jeff's Towing and DeKalb Central Dispatch.
