(TEKONSHA) - Two Lansing residents were arrested early Saturday after a wrong-way driver traveled northbound in the southbound lanes of I-69 near Tekonsha.
The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says the incident began around 2:51 a.m. Saturday when dispatchers received reports from Branch County dispatch and multiple motorists about the vehicle.
Authorities say a deputy attempted to stop the slow-moving vehicle using emergency lights and sirens, but 29-year-old Domonique Nicole Gibson allegedly swerved around the patrol vehicle and continued driving against traffic.
Deputies later deployed spike strips on southbound I-69 near F Drive South because of concerns about a possible head-on crash.
Investigators say the vehicle struck the spike strips, causing three tires to deflate before the vehicle came to a stop.
Gibson was arrested and lodged in the Calhoun County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon while intoxicated.
A 35-year-old male passenger was also arrested on a concealed pistol license concealment violation while intoxicated charge.
The investigation remains ongoing.
