(COLDWATER) - A major local fundraiser exceeded expectations over the weekend.
Organizers say the 16th annual "Walk A Mile in Their Shoes" event raised more than $70,000, topping last year's total of $68,000.
The event, hosted by the Branch County Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, supports the Naomi Davis Shelterhouse and its services for survivors.
Despite chilly conditions, a large crowd gathered along South Monroe Street for the event, which included a pancake breakfast, family activities, and the signature walk where participants wear high heels to raise awareness.
This year's event also expanded to include a 5K run and a pet-friendly walk.
Organizers say the funds will help continue services as the organization faces potential federal funding cuts.
