(GARRETT, IND.) - A Garret-Keyser-Butler Community Schools staff member is on administrative leave pending termination after bringing a personal handgun to Garrett High School.
Superintendent Dan Durrwachter notified families of the incident, which happened Monday.
School officials say a school resource officer quickly secured the weapon and escorted the staff member off campus.
Under Indiana law, the employee was placed on administrative leave while the district moves forward with termination.
The district says it is working with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
School officials acknowledged concerns about the incident and directed questions to the district's central office.
