(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana taxpayers with overdue state tax bills will get a limited chance this summer to pay eligible back taxes without penalties, interest or collection fees under the state's new Tax Amnesty 2026 program.

The Indiana Department of Revenue says the amnesty window will run from July 15th through September 9th and applies to individuals and businesses with eligible liabilities for tax periods ending before January 1, 2024.

Those who successfully complete the program will receive a full waiver of penalties, interest and collection costs tied to those eligible tax periods. Taxpayers who took part in Indiana's 2005 or 2015 amnesty programs are not eligible this time.

The Department of Revenue says payment plans will also be allowed, but any amnesty payment agreement must be paid in full by June 7, 2027 to keep the waiver benefits.

State officials warn taxpayers who are eligible but choose not to participate could face double penalties on those same liabilities after the program ends.
