(MERRILLVILLE) - Northern Indiana Public Service Company is rolling out temporary relief measures to help customers struggling with high winter energy bills.

NIPSCO announced it will waive late fees and reconnect fees and pause service disconnections for nonpayment through March 31. The company will also reduce reconnect deposits for gas customers during that time.

Company leaders say recent extreme cold has placed added pressure on household budgets across the region.

"These temporary support measures complement existing assistance and billing options available to NIPSCO customers," said Vince Parisi, NIPSCO President and Chief Operating Officer. "Every customer's situation is unique, and our teams are here to help customers review their bills, answer questions and explore available support options."

NIPSCO already offers payment plans, budget billing and income-based assistance programs. Customers can learn more about available options at NIPSCO.com/FinancialSupport or by calling 1-800-464-7726.

The temporary measures remain in effect through the end of March.
