(LAGRANGE) - Another case of bird flu has been detected in northeast Indiana, according to the Indiana State Board of Animal Health.

Officials say the latest infected flock -- a commercial egg-laying operation in LaGrange County -- contained nearly 8,700 birds. This marks the 35th confirmed case in the region since early October, with several others reported in Elkhart County.

The newest case was confirmed on Nov. 16. The flock has been quarantined, and authorities have established a 10-kilometer control zone in parts of Elkhart, LaGrange, and Noble Counties, along with a 20-kilometer surveillance zone covering portions of the same areas.

The Board of Animal Health notes that Indiana is the nation's top producer of ducks, and millions of domestic birds statewide have died this year due to the ongoing bird flu outbreak. For updated case information, residents can visit the Board of Animal Health's HPAI case dashboard.
