(INDIANAPOLIS) - New restrictions on wake surfing in Indiana are headed to Gov. Mike Braun.
House Enrolled Act 1062, authored by State Rep. David Abbott of Rome City, sets new safety standards for high-wake recreation on Indiana's freshwater lakes.
The measure bans wake surfing between sunset and sunrise, citing reduced visibility and increased risk of accidents. It also prohibits wake surfing on small lakes unless a speed exemption has been granted by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Lakes that already have speed exemptions must continue following existing rules. Supporters say the law aims to balance safety with recreational use as lake traffic increases during the summer months.
The bill now awaits the governor's signature.
