(ANGOLA) - Trine University will have two Overwatch esports teams competing this spring in the top division of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

The university is the only school with two teams in the ECAC's Overwatch Titans division, which features the nation's top 16 teams among the conference's 187 member institutions.

Trine's Overwatch Blue team competed in the Titans division last fall and finished fourth. The team opened the spring season with a 3-1 victory over the University at Buffalo.

The Overwatch Gold team advanced to the top division this semester after competing in Division A last season, where it qualified for the playoffs and won the Block House Esports League MIAA championship. Gold lost its first Titans match of the spring to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 3-1.

The Titans division includes teams from several major universities, including Ball State, the University of Virginia, the University of Delaware and Louisiana Tech.

A third Trine squad, Overwatch Navy, will compete in Division A this spring after forming from players who previously competed in lower ECAC divisions. Navy opened its season with a 3-0 win over the City College of New York.

Jeremy Goossens, director of esports at Trine, said the program's success reflects both player dedication and institutional support.
