(ANGOLA) — Trine University helped make a major impact in the fight against hunger this fall as part of the Community Harvest Food Bank’s 11th annual U Can Crush Hunger campaign. The friendly competition among eight northeast Indiana colleges and universities wrapped up November 8 with a record-breaking total of 137,335 pounds of food collected, far surpassing the goal of 125,000 pounds.

Trine University students, faculty, and staff contributed 11,628 pounds of food and funds toward the regional total, helping to support hunger relief programs and school food pantries throughout northeast Indiana. Purdue University Fort Wayne (PFW) took the top spot in this year’s competition with 43,875 pounds collected, followed by Indiana Tech with 19,995 pounds and the University of Saint Francis with 17,451 pounds.

Final Standings:

Purdue University Fort Wayne – 43,875 lbs

Indiana Tech – 19,995 lbs

University of Saint Francis – 17,451 lbs

Ivy Tech Community College – 13,047 lbs

Manchester University – 11,893 lbs

Trine University – 11,628 lbs

Indiana University Fort Wayne – 10,856 lbs

Huntington University – 8,590 lbs

Organized by Community Harvest Food Bank and supported by NIPSCO and the NiSource Charitable Foundation, the annual U Can Crush Hunger drive challenges area schools to raise both food and funds to fight food insecurity. Every dollar and pound of food collected remains in the counties where it was raised, ensuring local impact.

Now in its 11th year, the campaign continues to demonstrate the power of collaboration among northeast Indiana’s colleges and communities. With Trine University’s continued participation, the message remains clear — when northeast Indiana comes together, no one stands alone.
