(ANGOLA) – A man wanted for not registering as a sex or violent offender has been taken into custody.
Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says at 11 AM Friday, 34 year old Milton Hope II of Ashley was located and arrested without incident in the 200 block of West Garfield in Ashley for allegedly failing to register as a sex or violent offender.
Sheriff’s detectives had received information a couple of days ago that Hope had been living at the Garfield Street address for a least the last couple of months. However, Milton had reported to the Sheriff’s Office that he was living at another residence on Sandman Drive in rural Steuben Township.
The investigation further revealed that Hope was also allegedly in violation of the sex offender residency restrictions due to his offender classification and the Garfield address he was living at being within 1,000 feet of a public park. He also allegedly failed to possess an updated Indiana driver’s license or identification card as required for registered sex offenders by Indiana law.
Following an interview with detectives, Hope was booked into the Steuben County Jail on the following preliminary charges: Failure to Register as a Sex or Violent Offender, and Registered Sex Offender Residency Restriction Violation, both felonies, along with Failure to Possess Indiana Driver's License or ID Card by Registered Sex Offender, which is a misdemeanor.
Hope is being held on a $3,000 bond.
