PORTER TOWNSHIP, MI – A child is dead after being struck by a trailer.

Michigan State Police from the Niles Post were called to the 13,000 block of Carter Lake Road in Cass County’s Porter Township at 3:30 PM Friday on a call of a small child that had been struck by a trailer. When troopers arrived, they found an unresponsive 2 year old boy who lived at the house.

Lifesaving measures were attempted, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation determined that a 57 year old man who also lives at the residence was preparing to move a utility trailer across the property. Evidence suggests that the child may have wandered between the truck and the trailer just before it moved.

The mater is still under investigation. Assisting at the scene were the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
