LAGRANGE – The LaGrange County Council heard budget presentations Monday from all the departments for the 2023-24 fiscal year.
Most department heads asked for slight increases in their budgets for the new year, due to the rising costs of materials and to do their work. However one asked the Council to consider raises for all county employees across the board.
County Assessor Pat Monroe reminded the Council that employees received a bonus last year, but right now, they won’t be receiving one in the coming year.
Monroe says all of the departments work hard for the County and deserve a raise. She also shared that LaGrange County employees make less than people in the same positions in neighboring counties.
Monroe says her salary request isn’t out of line.
The County Council will hold an official budget hearing during their September meeting and then adopt the budget in October.
