By: Sheila McCrea - Wednesday, May 10, 2023

BRONSON, MI — Karen Smith is retiring as Bronson's clerk and treasurer after four decades of service.

Smith first started part-time in 1981. She also worked for Shaffer Distributing part-time before leaving the city to work full-time at Shaffer. In 1983, the city of Bronson asked her to come back to the city job full-time.

Smith is iconic in her service not just to the city of Bronson, but the entire community. Among her long list of community service activities she had a 20 year run as president the Bronson athletic boosters president. She’s served everywhere from the fire department to the Bronson theater board. Many would say if there was a need in the Bronson Community, Smith was always one of the first step up.

Quincy village clerk and treasurer Tricia Rzepka will take over Smith's roles this week.
