ANGOLA — The fruits of campaigning have come to a close as voters have made their decision and the results are in for municipal primary elections in Steuben County.

In Angola, at the top of the ticket was Colleen Everage, who challenged veteran Councilman Dave Martin for the Republican nomination for mayor. With all precincts reporting in, Dave Martin is the winner, 626-234, with Martin receiving roughly 73% of the votes.

Sue Essman, who currently serves as human resources director for Angola, intends to file for the Democratic nomination after the primary election is over.

A Democrat has held the mayor’s seat in Angola for the past 32 years.

The race to replace Angola Councilman Gary Crum in District A has Randy Coffey as the winner over June Julien running for the Republican nomination. Nick Sutton is running on the Democratic ticket.

Running for the District C Republican nomination are Leslie Schlottman and Jennifer Sharkey. Sharkey is the winner.

In Fremont, voters decided three seats on the Fremont Town Council, where five Republicans ran for the three nominations available. Three incumbents on the Town Council, Steve Brown, Linda Fulton and Bill Stitt ran. They had two challengers: Scott Glendening and Rick Towers. Incumbents Linda Fulton and Bill Stitt were among the top three, along with newcomer Scott Glendening.

Fremont Community Schools voters who were against the referendum won with 510 saying “no”, and 433 “yes” votes. This means the current operating referendum will not be renewed. It originally passed in 2015.
