ORLAND, IN - Area Fire Fighters are reminding people to be careful when using extra heating sources, especially heat lamps and electric heaters.

Between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, the Orland Fire Department responded to two fires in a 12 hour period. Orland Firefighter Brooke Norton says both incidents “are believed to have been started by heat lamps to keep outdoor animals warm.”

In a Tuesday night fire, the home owner “lost their home and all their belongings.”

A separate incident at another location Wednesday morning involved a fire that was contained to a chicken coop and out building. Luckily it was stopped before a nearby garage and other structures in the area were damaged.

Norton reminds people to please use extreme caution when using heat lamps or electric heaters, especially with anything flammable near by. She said in both cases, straw was in close proximity of the heat for bedding and insulation.
