By: Mike Stiles - Wednesday, August 3, 2022

COLDWATER, MICH. – Multiple charges have been filled against a Coldwater man following an investigation by the Coldwater Police and the Michigan State Police.

Branch County District Court officials say 62 year old James Neary has been arraigned on seven counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, along with a count of using a computer to commit a crime.

Court documents say Coldwater Police started the investigation after being told that Neary allegedly had child sexually abusive material on his computer. A search warrant was obtained for Neary’s home where officers found several devices, hard drives and computers.

Michigan State Police were asked to search the devices and located at least two videos along with thousands of pictures of alleged child sex abuse.

Neary plead not guilty to the charges, and his bond was set at $75,000. A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for August 11 and a preliminary examination for August 16.
