Indiana Republicans Pass Abortion Bill During Special Session
By: Sheila McCrea - Thursday, July 28, 2022

INDIANAPOLIS — On the third day of the Indiana General Assembly’s special session Senate Republicans moved an abortion bill forward.

The bill that would ban almost all abortions in the state narrowly passed with a considerable amount of disagreement over the language.

A special committee voted seven to five in favor of the proposal. It prohibits abortions, except in cases of rape or if the mother’s life is in danger.

Thursday, the abortion bill goes before the full Senate for amendments and debate at 1:30 p.m. Several amendments are expected to be introduced by both Republican and Democrat senators.
