HOWARD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An accidental shooting over the weekend claimed the life of an Indiana woman.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke said his department was called out at 3:36 p.m. on Sunday to an emergency situation off of Detroit Road in Howard Township. When deputies arrived they discovered that 35-year-old Brittany Young of South Bend had been shot.

Emergency personnel gave first aid to Young, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies determined that Young was transporting a firearm into the house when it accidentally discharged.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, the Howard Township Fire Department and the SMCAS Ambulance Service
