Driver Injured In Saturday Crash After Falling Asleep

BUTLER — Authorities say a driver was injured after he fell asleep and crashed his vehicle.

According to the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Department, Dane Knapp, age 39, of Butler, crashed his vehicle while driving north on the 3500 block of County Road 61. The accident happened shortly after noon on Saturday.

Investigators say Knapp fell asleep causing his 2006 Dodge Dakota to go off the east side of the road and into a ditch. The vehicle struck a culvert at County Road 34.

Authorities said Knapp's vehicle was a total loss.

Reports indicate Police Knapp complained of chest pain following the crash and was transported to an area hospital by Parkview EMS.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Butler police and fire departments, Parkview EMS, Jeff's Towing, and Riverside Towing.
