Fort Wayne Man Has Case Moved to Circuit Court

COLDWATER, Mich. – A Fort Wayne man arrested in connection with a crash in Branch County has had his case bound over to Circuit Court.

According to Branch County District Court officials, 33 year old Evan Kerr waived his preliminary hearing.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department was called to the intersection of Fremont and Copeland Road just after 8 AM on April 20, 2021 for a two vehicle crash. Kerr was driving on Copeland Roads and allegedly failed to stop at the intersection, colliding with a northbound SUV driven by 69 year old James Wagenknecht of Hamilton, Indiana.

Both men were flown from the scene by Samaritan Helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Wagenknecht suffered several broken bones in the crash.

Kerr was arrested on two charges of operating under the influence causing serious injury; reckless driving causing serious impairment of bodily functions and moving violation causing serious impairment of bodily functions.

Kerr is scheduled to have a pre-trial conference on August 1.
