(POKAGON TOWNSHIP) – Two people died in a car fire in Cass County's Pokagon Township.

Cass County Sheriff Richard Behnke says his department was called to the 57,000 block of M-51 South at 3:50 Friday morning. Detectives say is appears the vehicle was stuck in the driveway due to the heavy snowfall. Attempts to get the vehicle free were unsuccessful, and it's believed that carbon monoxide may have filled the passenger compartment, rendering the two occupants unconscious.

The heat from the overworked engine is believed to have caused the fire.

The names of the victims have not been released, pending positive identification and the notification of family members.

Assisting deputies were the Pokagon Fire Department.
