Indiana and Michigan both saw an increase in vehicle crashes from 2020 to 2021.
In Indiana during 2021, there were 200,909 total crashes with a 14.38% increase compared to 2020. Injury crashes totaled 30,109 with a 11.20% increase, while fatal crashes went up to 824 by 1.10%.
Michigan had 283,507 total crashes in 2021, a 14.97% increase from the year before. There were 50,381 injury crashes -- a 16.19% increase -- and 1,022 fatal crashes, a 8.49% increase.
Seat belt usage went down in Indiana and Michigan from about 94% in 2020 to about 92% in 2021.
Law enforcement officials remind motorists to pay attention, wear a seat belt and slow down on the roads.
