Northeast Indiana — A vehicle fire stopped southbound traffic on Interstate 69 north of Fort Wayne Thursday afternoon.

A vehicle was reportedly on fire in the area of the 318 mile marker, a mile north of the Union Chapel Road interchange. Traffic along the interstate was stopped.

INDOT showed traffic stopped from the Auburn Road/Vandolah Road overpass north to the County Road 60 overpass in DeKalb County.

Authorities say the vehicle fire also resulted in a separate crash just north in DeKalb County just after 3:30 p.m. Reports indicate a car being driven by Juanita Gambler, age 29 of Hicksville, Ohio, was slowing down her vehicle due to slowed traffic on southbound I-69 near the 322 mile marker. The car being driven by Gambler was then rear-ended by another vehicle driven by Saul De Jesus Hernandez Barrientos, age 44 of Waterloo.

Barrientos told officers with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department that he attempted to stop, but could not avoid the collision.

According to a release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, a pair of passengers in the car driven by Gambler were transported to an area hospital with various injuries. They were reported in fair condition.
