Michigan House And Senate Districts Announced
By: Mike Stiles - Thursday, December 30, 2021

Some changes will be coming to Michigan House of Representatives and Michigan State Senate districts in 2022.

The Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission announced on Tuesday the new maps for the U.S. Congressional Districts in Michigan, along with the Michigan House and Michigan Senate Districts. The Commission, made up of 13 registered voters randomly picked through an application process, were given the task of redrawing Michigan's districts that will be in place for the next ten years.

There will be a change to the Michigan Senate Districts, and specifically for Southern Michigan. Currently, St. Joseph County is in the 21st Michigan Senate District, and Branch County is in the 16th Senate District.

The new District would be the 17th, and would include St. Joseph, Branch and Cass Counties, the southern half of Berrien County, a portion of Calhoun County and the western parts of both Hillsdale and Jackson Counties.

In the Michigan House Districts, the boundaries are the same, but will have new numbers. St. Joseph and the majority of Cass County are currently in the 59th House District. They would continue to be a District, but renamed the 36th District.

Branch and Hillsdale Counties will stay together, but will be known as the 35th House District instead of the 58th District.

The western part of Cass County and the majority of Berrien County will be renamed from the 78th Michigan House District to the 37th District.

These changes will go into effect in 2022.
