Wanted Noble County Escapee Captured at Angola Walmart

NOBLE COUNTY, IN – A man who escaped from a Noble County Sheriff’s deputy’s squad car earlier this week was captured in Angola.

Police served an arrest warrant on David Ellis Hicks at a home in Kendallville on Monday. Officers found Hicks hiding in a small space under the floorboards. After being ordered out, Hicks surrendered.

In the space where Hicks was hiding police found a glass pipe with what appeared to be meth inside.

Hicks was placed in a squad car after his arrest. He told authorities there were drugs in a shed on the property and he asked officers to, “get them out for him.”

Reports indicate the deputy closed the door of the squad car, locked it, and went to search the shed.

After the search, the deputy came back to find Hicks gone. The dashcam showed Hicks getting out of the car and running away with handcuffs on.

He managed to escape capture until he was spotted at the Walmart in Angola where he was again taken into custody.
