(DEKALB COUNTY) – Two people were injured in a two vehicle accident between Waterloo and Butler.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent out at 4:40 PM Saturday for a two vehicle accident at County Road 53 and U.S. 6. While heading to the scene, deputies were informed by the Butler Police they had arrived and found one vehicle in the ditch and another in the road.

Deputies say 24 year old Jeffery Spillers of Auburn was heading west on U.S. 6 and using his cell phone. He was following an automobile driven by 48 year old Lori Buell of Auburn. Spillers says Buell was turning south and he was not able to stop in time and collided with the Buell vehicle.

Buell sustained a head injury and was taken to an area hospital to be treated. Spillers was not injured in the crash, but his passenger, 29 year old Caitlyn Beard of Auburn, had a cut to the leg. She refused medical treatment.

Spillers was cited for using his cell phone while driving.

The Butler Fire Department and Parkview EMS assisted at the scene.
