LAKE JAMES, IN - Tom’s Donuts Original is throwing a party to celebrate 50 years in business.

A party was planned for last year, but challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic prompted owners to wait until this year.

Tom Saylor opened the doughnut shop in 1970 near Lake James. His son Todd Saylor now runs the business; however, Tom is still an active part of the business at 80 years old. They are still known for their famous donuts, but they also offer other food like burgers and coney dogs.

As part of the extensive planning that has went into the block party set for this Saturday (July 31st), the company built and funded ‘Tom's Park' in honor of founding father, Tom Saylor. The park sets on the lakeside at the original Lake James four corners location. The park features a pavilion and other amenities.

The celebration is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Owner Tom Saylor and tight rope walker Nick Wallenda are among the guest speakers.
