Man Charged in Branch County Bicyclist Death

COLDWATER, MI – A Coldwater man has been charged for his involvement in an April 12th death of a bicyclist north of Kinderhook in Branch County.

The Branch County Prosecutor’s office filed charges against 27-year-old Jacob Daniel Ward. Ward is accused of driving a SUV that struck a woman’s bicycle as she riding on Old U.S. 27 near Nye Road back in April.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Ward was booked at the Branch County jail earlier this week on Tuesday. He was reportedly released after posting a $100,000 bond.

Ward is scheduled to appear in Branch County District Court for an arraignment on August 23rd. He has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Reckless Driving Causing Death, Moving Violation Causing Death, Use of Methamphetamines, and Use of Marijuana.
