Suspect Badly Hurt in Car Theft After Fleeing Authorities

FREMONT, IN - In Steuben County, a vehicle theft, became a pursuit, which ended in a crash leaving a woman with serious injuries.

Steuben County 911 received a call concerning a stolen car from a North Old 27 location Monday evening. As police canvased the area they spotted the suspect vehicle already going at a high rate of speed fleeing from the scene. The female suspect tried to evade police, and a pursuit began.

Stop sticks were deployed by authorities on State Road 120 near Snow Lake Lane. The suspect drove over them, deflating the tires on the alleged stolen vehicle.

The suspect, who has been identified as 27 year old Autumn Kristeen Deck of Osseo, Michigan, continued at a high rate of speed. She lost control of the vehicle, which flipped several times on impact, ejecting her from the tumbling wreckage.

Deck was transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne in serious condition.
