Drowning Victim Identified in DeKalb County Incident

GARRETT, IN - The drowning victim that was recovered Sunday in a private lake at Indian Springs Campground near Garrett has been identified as Ahmad Sediq Safi, age 30, of Ft. Wayne.

According to Indiana Conservation Officers, first responders were dispatched to the 900 block of County Road 64 in reference to a male swimmer who had begun to struggle while swimming. The victim reportedly went under the water and did not resurface.

The incident was reported just before 1:30 p.m.

SCUBA divers from the Steuben County Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team (SCURRT) were able to locate the Safi just after 3 p.m. that same day.

Conservation Officers would like to remind everyone that is swimming in or near water to always wear a personal floatation device (PFD).
