Friday, April 9, 2021

DEKALB COUNTY - A teen was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital after Indiana Conservation Officers said she lost control of an off-road vehicle Wednesday.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, a 14-year-old girl was driving an ORV on private property in the 5900 block of CR 55 just before 11 a.m. She lost control and was thrown from the machine.

First responders treated her at the scene, but because of her injuries, she was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment. Authorities said she wasn't wearing a helmet or any other protective riding gear at the time of the crash.

Indiana law requires all operators or passengers on an ORVs who are under 18 to wear a DOT-approved helmet.
