LOCKPORT TOWNSHIP – No injuries were reported when a manure truck flipped over in Lockport Township.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department says the incident happened just before 11:30 AM Wednesday at the intersection of Schweitzer Road and M-60. The truck was driving west on M-60 and attempted a left turn onto Schweitzer Road, but was going too fast. Investigators says the container holding the liquified manure was not filled up, which caused it to move around and tip the truck over as it was turning.

The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. There was damage to the truck and the guardrail along the road. The manure did flow down into the St. Joseph River. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy were called to the scene and deemed the area as safe.

The Three Rivers Fire Department also assisted at the crash site.
