Michigan Changing COVID Vaccine Schedule
By: Mike Stiles - Thursday, January 7, 2021

LANSING – A change is coming to Michigan's COVID-19 vaccination schedule.

To help reach the State's goal of vaccinating 70 percent of Michiganders over the age of 16 and bring a quicker end to the pandemic in Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday the State is moving to a new phase of vaccination starting January 11.

The MDHHS is moving forward with vaccination of Michiganders age 65 and older, frontline essential workers, which includes police officers, first responders, frontline state and federal workers, and jail and prison staff. Also included in the new schedule are PreK-12 teachers and childcare providers.

In addition to vaccinating Michigan residents who are age 75 or older in Phase 1B, the MDHHS is accelerating their plans to vaccinate individuals age 65 to 74. All Michigan counties may begin vaccinating residents over the age of 65. Seniors are urged to visit the State of Michigan website at Michigan.gov/covid vaccine to find local health departments and other local vaccine clinics near them that are ready to book appointments.
