Keller Chosen For ISD Board Vacancy

CENTREVILLE – There's a new face on the St. Joseph County Intermediate School District Board of Education.

During Monday's meeting the ISD Board interviewed Cameron Bullock and Patricia Keller for the open seat. The vacancy was created when Board Treasurer Geoffrey Smith resigned effective September 21.

Both Bullock and Keller were asked a series of questions: such as why do they want to sit on the ISD Board; what challenges are schools facing during the COVID-19 pandemic; how should Board members make themselves accessible to the public and what is their vision for Education.

After both candidates had been interviewed, the ISD Board then discussed who they thought would be a good fit. Board member Ben Fries shares that both Bullock and Keller are strong candidates with different strengths. Board member Ben Fries says Bullock is strong on the financial side and
the special education side with Keller. Fries says he could go either way on it.

Fries says with special education a big part of the ISD's budget, someone with experience in special education would be a better fit for the Board which is where he is leaning.

The Board voted 4-0 to appoint Keller to the vacant board seat. She took her oath and joined the Board for the rest of the meeting.
