Lakeland Internet Announces Further Expansion of Coverage Area
Friday, September 11, 2020

ANGOLA, IN – Lakeland Internet has announced additional expansion of broadband internet for previously under-serviced areas of Steuben County. Their latest expansion includes the Pine Canyon area, bringing reliable high-speed internet to about 40 homes in the area.

Lakeland Internet received the grant from Governor Eric Holcomb’s Next Level Connections Broadband Grant Program through the state of Indiana. This partnership of public and private funds will bring life-changing internet access to more residents in Steuben County. The grant was formally awarded by Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch during a ceremony at Trine University earlier this week.

The Next Level Broadband Grant Program is the largest single state investment in broadband and expects to distribute $100 million dollars total to projects.

“In the past 18 months, we have more than doubled our capacity within the network to meet the incredible demand for broadband service in our coverage area,” commented Lakeland Internet General Manager Mark Byler. “This grant allows us to continue our mission of expanding access to unserved areas throughout Steuben County and Northeastern Indiana.”

In addition to the expansion in Pine Canyon, Lakeland continues to expand throughout the region. They have recently started a partnership program to work with individuals with old TV antenna towers, converting them so the owner of the tower and the immediate area surrounding it can gain broadband internet access.
