Fatal Fire Tuesday Morning Fire In Quincy

Fire crews in Quincy were brought into action in full force Tuesday morning in what is being described as a major fire that broke out in a two story apartment building just west of downtown.

At approximately 3:20 A.M., crews were called to the fire reported at 58 West Chicago Street. Quincy firefighters were initially dispatched and later received mutual aid from Coldwater, Lakeland, Bronson and Allen firefighters while Fremont, Indiana fire crews stood by at the Lakeland station.

Later reports issued on Tuesday morning have indicated that one person was killed in the fire, with four more being taken to an area hospital for treatments for smoke inhalation. The fire unfortunately also took the lives of two dogs in an upstairs apartment.

The fire was called under control at 4:57 a.m., and crews are continuing to investigate the cause of the blaze.

The name of the person who died in the fire has not been released.
