Steuben County Commissioners Meet Early Monday Morning
Monday, June 15, 2020

Steuben County Commissioners held their meeting early Monday morning and discussed a variety of items that were slated on the agenda for their second meeting for the month of June.

The board heard a request from Steuben County Building Superintendent Gary Fair, for the Mechanical Repair of the Four Soldiers statues in the downtown public square within the city of Angola. Steuben County Welding & Fabrication submitted the bid to do the repair work needed. Fair sited that the process of repairing the statues would be done off site, and more efficiently if done on the mound.

Fair advised the board that the work that needs to be done to the statues will require an intricate repair job to be done deep within the statues and that requires cutting out most of the old metal and then filling it with new metal. This is caused by the expanding and contracting of the metal during the extreme temperature changes Northeast Indiana sees throughout the year.

The commissioners unanimously passed the motion with a goal of having the necessary repairs made to the statues before this winter.

In addition, Jen Sharkey from the Steuben County Highway Department brought an update to the commissioners in regards to several road projects within the county seeing reimbursements provided through INDOT, as well as highlighting several other projects that will be coming to the forefront in the months to come.
