Suspect Arrested In Coldwater Stabbing Death

A suspect has been arrested in a fatal Coldwater stabbing incident.

Coldwater Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid says police officers responded to an incident at the Quality Inn at 3 AM Saturday, after receiving a 911 call. They found a man unresponsive inside a motel room. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arriving. Witnesses provided a
description of the suspect and his vehicle, allowing officers to broadcast a Be On The Lookout to other area police agencies. Michigan State Police troopers spotted the care on U.S. 12 near Quincy. They took the driver into custody in connection with the stabbing.

The suspect was then identified as 33-year-old Arial Moreira-Gonzalez of Miami, Florida. Following his arraignment in Branch County District Court over the weekend, it was announced that Moreira-Gonzalez is being held without bond in the Branch County Jail.

Scheid says the name of the victim has not been released, pending notification of family members.

The case remains under investigation.
