PLEASANT LAKE, Ind. (WLKI)- A Pleasant Lake man faces a Level 6 felony charge after authorities say he entered a school building despite restrictions tied to his status as a serious sex offender.

Chad M. Fugate, 40, was arrested by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office following an incident at Pleasant Lake Montessori School.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a school resource officer reported that Fugate entered the building while dropping off his child. The officer said the entry violated Fugate's registry restrictions.

Fugate later contacted the sheriff's office on a recorded line and admitted entering the building, according to court documents. He reportedly told authorities that he did not go beyond the first two sets of security doors.

Indiana law prohibits serious sex offenders from entering school property without legal authorization.

Fugate was booked into the Steuben County Jail as the case moves through the court system.

The felony charge is an allegation, and Fugate is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
