COLDWATER, Mich. (WLKI)- A 22-year-old Coldwater man has been charged after police say he assaulted a co-worker Sunday night at a Burger King restaurant on the city's east side.
Coldwater Public Safety officers were called to the restaurant around 9 p.m. after receiving a report of a fight involving employees.
According to police, the incident began after the suspect returned from a break and became involved in an argument with another employee at the front counter.
Witnesses told officers the suspect jumped over the counter and struck a 46-year-old co-worker in the head with a phone. Police also allege the suspect bit the victim in the face during the confrontation.
The victim was found with multiple head injuries and was taken to Insight Hospital and Medical Center Coldwater for treatment.
Police said a co-worker recorded the incident on a cellphone.
The Branch County Prosecutor's Office has charged Austin Lawhead with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
A charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
