(STEUBEN COUNTY) - A Monday night crash on the Indiana Toll Road involving multiple semis shut traffic down for several hours.

Indiana State Police say just after 10:30 PM Monday Trooper Tyler Pinnington responded to calls of a crash at Mile Marker 151.2 in Steuben County involving multiple vehicles blocking all eastbound lanes.

The preliminary investigation indicates the traffic slowed or stopped as it entered the merge point of an overnight work zone while crews were working on the Eastpoint Toll Plaza. A car driven by 39-year-old Ruslan Piddaniuk of Parma, Ohio failed to slow for traffic and ran into the vehicles in front of him.

The collision involved three additional semis causing all eastbound lanes to be blocked. One of the semis caught fire but the driver was able to escape from the vehicle.

Two drivers from the crash were transported to a local hospital complaining of pain, but were treated and released.

Eastbound traffic was diverted off the Toll Road at Angola Exit 144 while crews worked overnight to clear the scene. The eastbound lanes re-opened at approximately 6:45 Tuesday morning.

Assisting troopers at the scene were the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, the Fremont Police Department, Fremont Fire and EMS along with Indiana Toll Road Maintenance.
